Baltimore Orioles
As a major league baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles belong currently to the American League, Eastern division. The team was founded in 1893 as the Milwaukee Brewers, then changed to St. Louis Browns in 1902 and finally changed to the Baltimore Orioles in 1954. The original Baltimore Orioles baseball team back in the early 19th century was moved to New York for franchise reasons and became the New York Yankees very shortly after being accepted into the American League. Currently the team resides in Baltimore, Maryland in the Oriole Park at Camden Yards stadium.
The official Baltimore orioles’ logo carries a Baltimore oriole bird. For those of you who do not know it, this is the official state bird of Maryland. In the Glory Years (1966 – 1983) the 1983 Baltimore Orioles had won three World Series titles (in 1966, 1970 and 1983), six American League pennants and six of the first seven American League division titles. The Baltimore orioles had more good prospects than most other baseball teams. Through their farm system existing in Maryland a big number of high quality baseball players and coaches was produced. During this stretch in history, the Baltimore Orioles baseball team had 3 different players awarded with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. These famous players were Frank Robinson in 1966, Boog Powell in 1970 and Cal Ripken, Jr. in 1983.
