Chicago White Sox

As a major league baseball team, the Chicago White Sox belong currently to the American League, Central Division. The Chicago White Sox baseball team is based in Chicago Illinois. The team as an American League team was founded in 1900 as the White Stockings. Later the name was shortened from stockings to sox. In the Chicago White Sox history before the being part of the American League the team had two other names, including Sioux City Cornhuskers (1893-1894) and St. Paul Saints (1894 – 1900). The current home stadium of the Chicago White Sox is the U.S. Cellular Field.

The 1919 Chicago White Sox also had the not so nice name of “Black Sox” related to the Black sox scandal. As the Chicago White Sox entered the 1919 World Series several players where found guilty of intentionally losing games. Gamblers who wanted to fix bets this way thought up the whole scheme. This is one of the reasons why major league baseball are not allowed to bet on baseball and as children’s idols shouldn’t bet in general.

Since their opening in 1900 the Chicago White Sox where owned by the Comiskeys Family. In 1959 when a new owner took over, new business ideas where incorporated into the franchise. The 1959 Chicago White Sox drew record numbers in fan attendance, not only due to good baseball play, but also due to the newly added fireworks for the fans after the game.

As with do many other teams in the league the Chicago White Sox schedule changed from 140 to 162 games over time.

The Chicago White Sox logo depicts the letters SOX, interlocked in Old English Script font, in black on uniforms or in white on baseball hats.

Tucson Electric Park in Tucson Arizona is currently the Chicago White Sox Spring training facility but will be moved in 2009 to Glendale, Arizona.

The Chicago Wild Sox have won three World Series titles in 1906, 1917 and 2005.
