Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers are a Major League baseball team belonging to the American League Central Division and are the current American League champions. The Detroit Tigers baseball team was not the first name that the team carried. In their first major league appearance in 1881 the Detroit Tigers were called the Detroit Wolverines. They later on changed their name to Tigers in honor of a Detroit military unit, called the Detroit Light Guard. In the 19th century the Detroit Light Guard had also the nickname “the tigers”.
Now here a question for you, do you know what the logo of the Detroit Tigers looks like?
It actually is a capital D. The Detroit Tigers logo is fairly simple and depicts a decorative old English D. On hats this D is slightly pointier than on uniform shirts.
The Detroit Tigers played ball over the years in several stadiums, but currently the Detroit Tigers stadium is the Comercia Park. Before the year 2000 the Detroit Tigers played in Tiger Stadium. At this point in time Tiger stadium was together with Fenway Park the oldest operating major league baseball ballpark. After building the new stadium several problems arose. The new stadium was not received as happily as planned, since its new depth prevented the players to easily hit homeruns. Therefore in 2005 the dimensions where adapted to better suite the game.
Being a winner of 4 World Series titles and 10 AL pennants (most recent one on 2006) Detroit Tiger tickets are a hot item and get sold very quickly. Like all the other baseball and sports teams the Detroit Tigers have a team mascot. It is the Detroit Tiger whose name is Paws.
