First Baseball Game

First Recorded Baseball Game

There were many baseball games played over the course of the 19th century. If not baseball, something similar to it. This game managed to become widespread and a fairly short period of time compared to how things happen in modern times. Since they had no solid lines of communication over great distances, it was up to people to travel and spread the word. That is how you know that baseball is a great game. If it wasn’t such a great game no one would have taken the game with them and taught others when the traveled. And, if they did and no one liked it, it wouldn’t have been adapted. But, lucky for us, everyone seemed to like it very much. And, not only did Alexander Cartwright take it with him on his travels, but so did the soldiers in the Civil War and it seems as if the people they told about this game enjoyed and adapted it.

The first recorded baseball game happened in 1846 in the great state of New Jersey. Alexander Cartwright and his Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York City graced the Elysian Fields in Hoboken to play the New York Baseball Club. Unfortunately, the maker of the baseball rules didn’t win the first recorded baseball game. Alexander Cartwright’s team lost to the New York Baseball Club. But, this didn’t stop him from playing, nor did it prompt him to change his rules. In fact, most of the rules that Alexander Cartwright recorded well over 100 years ago are still being used today. There are a couple that have been altered, but most of them remain unchanged.

First Baseball Game

Since the first baseball game was in 1846, it stood to reason that there would be several games to follow. And, that it did. Soon, there were baseball clubs popping up everywhere, but after a slow period during the Civil War, unfortunately. But, those soldiers who enjoyed the game so much before the war didn’t see a reason not to enjoy the game during war, so wherever they went, so did baseball. Thus, after the unrest of the Civil War was settled, this is when a big rise of baseball occurred.

First Organized Baseball Game

Some might argue that the first organized baseball game happened in another country with England’s game of “rounders” that is very similar to what we know today to be baseball. However, keeping on American soil, there were several organized baseball games played before one was actually recorded. By the time the first baseball game was recorded, these men had already played recreational baseball long enough to decide to make it something that needed to be recorded and built upon.
