Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics are a Major League Baseball team and belong as such to the American League Western Division. The team is based in Oakland California.
Oakland Athletics baseball started in Oakland as different named team as far back as 1860, where they also derived their name from the back then existing Athletic clubs.
Other names used for the Oakland Athletics are the “A’s” or the “Oakland A’s”.

McAfee Coliseum is the Oakland Athletics stadium since 1968, but for spring training they use a different facility. Phoenix, Arizona is the current Oakland Athletics spring training facility. The coliseum had problems over the years of its own. It was a multipurpose facility, which was used together with the Oakland Raiders. After the Raider moved out of the stadium it was to big to be affordable for the A’s. Trying to improve the stadium did not help and therefore in 2010 the Oakland Athletics plan on moving to the nearby newly built Cisco Field in Fremont California.
The Oakland Athletics won 9 World Series titles with their most recent one in 1989. The 1989 Oakland Athletics baseball statistics show them as the best team in number of total wins, the same in the years 1988 and 1990.

The hall-of-famer Reggie Jackson’s primary team was the Oakland Athletics. With the Athletics he got two World Series MVPs and one American League championship MVP. In recent years the Oakland Athletics have made through some Western division titles but have not had the chance to win another World Series title since 1989.
