Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies are a Major League Baseball team and as such they belong to the National League, Eastern Division. The Philadelphia Phillies have played in the National League since their founding days in 1883.

From 1901 to 1954 there were two teams playing in Philadelphia. The second team where the Philadelphia Athletics that were later sold to Oakland.

In 1939 the Philadelphia Phillies hired pitcher Bill Hoffman, a 21 year old that was not drafted like all the other pitchers. In his short career that lasted for only 3 games he was one of the shortest playing MLB players in history.

The Philadelphia Phillies won the National League East Division in 1980 but to get to the World Series they would have to play in the 1980 NLCS Houston Astros versus Philadelphia Phillies and win. This they did in several extra innings games and they moved on to the World Series against the Kansas City Royals. The 1980 World Series is the only one the Philadelphia Phillies won and therefore they are one of only four teams to only have 1 World Series title, the others being Kansas City Royals, Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The Philadelphia Phillies logos have changed over time. The current Philadelphia Phillies logo on uniforms show the red script word Phillies with a bright blue star as the dot on the i and a white liberty bell in the background. Both the word and the bell are inside a pie shape with red rim and the pie shape is filled navy blue. The cap insignia is a big red script ā€œPā€.

In 2007 the Philadelphia Phillies are expected to cross the 10,000 losses barrier and be the first team that reaches the high number of losses, even though their game in 2007 is improved to former years.
