Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates are Major League Baseball team belonging to the National League, Central Division. Major League Baseball started in Pittsburgh in 1882, when the team was a charter member of the American Association. The teams name then was Pittsburgh Alleghenies twill 1889. The team was renamed to Pittsburgh Innocents or sometimes Infants for approximately 2 years, before the name finally changed to Pittsburgh Pirates in 1891.
The Barney Dreyfuss family sold the 1946 Pittsburgh Pirates to a syndicate including entertainer Bing Crosby after a long era of ownership.
Another name for the Pittsburgh Pirates is also the Bucs (derived from Buccaneer).
The Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team is a five-time World Series Winner, with the most recent one won by the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pittsburgh Pirates retired player bob friend was opening day pitcher seven times in a row and was inducted in the Indian Hall of Fame in1979. Bob Friend was found through the scouting system that was established in the 1950s after the team kept loosing over and over again.
