Tampa Bay Devil Rays

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays are a Major League Baseball team and they belong to the American League Eastern Division. The team is since its founding days in 1998 based in St. Petersburg, Florida and currently plays in Tropicana Field. The team was added to the league as an expansion team.

Though a Major League baseball team is new to the St.Petersburg, Florida area, professional baseball is not. Before the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, St.Petersburg has been a facilitator for Major League baseball spring training since 1913. Since then St. Petersburg has had more spring training games than any other city in the United States. Because of its growing population and also rich inhabitants Tampa Bay and St.Petersburg tried to acquire a Major League baseball team ever since the early 1980s, but was not successful till 1998.

The colors of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays uniforms are green, black, white, blue and gray. The Tampa Bay Devil Ray’s logo depicts the letters TB superimposed over a devil ray manta. Raymond is the mascot of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He is a Six Foot Six inch seadog wearing a Tampa Bay Devil Rays jersey with the number 00.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays spring training facility is not too far from their home stadium. It is in the Energy Park Stadium in St.Petersburg, Florida. The 2000 Tampa Bay Devil Rays roster was furnished with several good players. But unfortunately they were past their glory days and therefore the team still struggled in the 2000 season.

In the 2004 season Matt Spring was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and together with Kevin Lynn they are supposed to be future prospects for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
