Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals are a Major League Baseball team belonging to the National League, Eastern Division. The Washington Nationals MLB team is based in Washington, D.C. and the current Washington Nationals stadium is the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. The team is supposed to move into their new stadium in spring 2008 in Southeast, D.C..
Before becoming the Washington Nationals baseball team in 2005 the team was known as the Montreal Expos, a former Canadian Major League Baseball team. Baseball teams have existed in Washington before and their names have been Washington Nationals and Washington Senators.
As Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals the team was established in 1969 and has as such only one an Eastern Division title. They are one of only five teams in the Major League Baseball that have never won a World Series title. After moving to Washington the team also got a new owner. Since May 3rd 2006 a group headed by Theodore N. Lerner owns the Washington Nationals and former Atlanta Braves Executive Stan Kasten is president of the new team.
The Washington Nationals Alex Escobar will not be of great help in this season, since after getting hurt on the shoulder he now needs surgery and is most likely not able to lay for the rest of the season.
The Washington Nationals logo depicts the word “Washington” on a ribbon above the word “Nationals”. Both Words are superimposed over a baseball that is flanked with 9 stars. The 9 stars are supposed to represent the 9 defensive players of the Washington Nationals baseball team. Other logos for the Washington Nationals include logos for baseball hats. There do exist two logos for hats, the one is the scripted letter “W” and the other one is interlocking letters “D” and “C”. Mascot of the Washington Nationals is Screech, a six foot, two inch tall eagle, who wears a Washington Nationals cap and matching Washington Nationals jersey.
