Wilson Baseball Gloves

Wilson Baseball Gloves

Wilson Sporting Goods currently makes three major lines of baseball gloves: The A3000, the A2000 and the A2K, along with six other, minor brands. The A3000 is the highest quality brand, designed to the highest standards and made of the finest materials, with the company’s patented exoskeleton technology, a series of thick leather strips on the outer shell designed to reinforce the fingers. An A3000 is the glove used by Barry Bonds. The A2000 is the most respected, flagship brand, having been around since 1957. The A2K was designed as a retooling of the A2000 brand, and is made of finer materials with a tighter design. The company also makes six lesser lines, the A1000, the A900, the A700, the A500, the A450 and the A425. Wilson ball gloves were recently named as the official baseball gloves for the MLB.

Antique Wilson Baseball Gloves

Wilson baseball gloves have been around at least since the 1930’s, and, due to the high quality of the leather and the stitching, many of them are still in very good condition. It’s not likely that you might find any, however, as the few that remain are likely in the hands of private collectors or antique dealers. A well-preserved antique baseball glove can be worth between two and three hundred dollars to the right buyer. A few examples can be found at the Antique Athlete store (www.antiqueathlete.com) or at the Sports Memorabilia Museum (/www.sports-memorabilia-museum.com).

Wilson Custom Baseball Gloves

Wilson currently offers customers the option to order a custom version of any A2000 model glove with their name written on it. In addition, they offer the option to personalize their first baseman and catcher’s mitts. Every one of their personalized gloves, according to their website, is put together with the same standards of their A2000 gloves. The outer palm leather or shell is cut from the best and sturdiest part of the hide to better protect the player’s hand. A separate piece for the back of the thumb is cut and a glove craftsman hand-embroiders the customer’s name and whatever message he wants on the glove to the exact specifications provided. The glove can have up to sixteen letters and/or numbers in five different colors and two fonts, either block or script text. Finally, the lacing and web are added and the entire glove is pounded, softening it and completing the process glove-making process.
